Who Was Shelley Watkins?

Shelly Lou Watkins was a mother, a daughter, and a friend. She was born on December 17, 1957, in Toledo, Ohio, and later moved to Texas, where she lived in Corsicana with her husband and two daughters. She was known for her warmth, her laughter, and her deep devotion to her children. Shelly was actively involved in her community, contributing to charitable organizations like the American Cancer Society and participating in the Women’s Club House Association. In September 1993, that life was cut short. Shelly was found dead under circumstances that remain suspicious to this day. Her murder shocked Corsicana, but what followed was even more devastating—a case dismissed, a silence maintained, and justice denied.

Why We're Still Telling Her Story

For over three decades, those closest to Shelly have carried the weight of unanswered questions and the pain of knowing that the person responsible has never been held accountable. The official investigation fell apart amid allegations of corruption and misconduct, including a prosecutor who was later caught soliciting bribes in unrelated cases. Shelly’s story was buried under power, money, and influence. But her memory has not been forgotten.

This project exists to shine a light on the truth—to ensure that Shelly is not just remembered, but that the full truth of what happened to her is brought into the open.
